About Partners in Wellness

Our Mission: To enhance, change, and save lives by promoting individual recovery, family wellness, and community health.

Our History

In 2005, New Mexico State Senator Michael Sanchez and Former Human Services Department Secretary Pamela Hyde in an attempt to address the problem of substance abuse and related problems in Valencia County, worked with community leaders and state policy makers to create a state of the art Center for Recovery and Wellness. The initial plan was three fold:

  1. To provide direct behavioral healthcare services to Valencia County residents;
  2. To provide a centrally located best practice behavioral heatlh training institute to serve the region and state;
  3. To provide a residential treatment center for women with substance addiction and their children.

With the leadership of Senator Michael Sanchez, the New Mexico legislature appropriated capital outlay funding to build the Center. Leaders in the private and public sectors worked tirelessly to coordinate development of the Center, with an end goal of meeting unmet community needs and providing appropriate, culturally relevant services and resources to help promote community wellness.

The Present

Partners in Wellness began formal service provision from the Center for Recovery and Wellness in February 2011. PIW provides an array of outpatient substance abuse and mental health services through a multidisciplinary team of behavioral health professionals and in partnership with a number of key community stakeholders.

The Future

Future plans include not only the Women and Children's Residential Treatment Center, but a variety of services and community programs aimed at improving the health, safety, resiliency, and overall well-being of the county's residents. Due to its central location within New Mexico and the state-of-the-art training institute within, the Center has the capacity to house county, regional, statewide and national conferences, seminars, training, and a variety of multidisciplinary educational forums. As such, the Center is poised to become a statewide resource for training and professional development.
